Cloudy Bay, founded in 1985, is one of the five wineries first established in Marlborough. Since its inception, the winery has received people’s much attention and praise, and quickly became a globally recognized producer of standard white wine.

The winery is located in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough at the northern end of New Zealand's South Island, which has a cool climate, a high humidity and clay -based soil, meanwhile it is also the wine region with longest sunshine hours in New Zealand. Cloudy Bay winery has its own vineyards ( it also buy grapes from local wine farmers ) , and it mainly plants Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and raises a small portion of Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris.
